Exactly what is the difference between bar stools and a counter stools? Perhaps you have heard people use the term bar stool interchangeably with a counter stool, but there is a significant between the two.
What is that difference? Well, it's their height. You see, one of the counter variety will is approximately 24 to 26 inches high from the top of the seat to the floor, making them ideal for most (not all) kitchen counters that are 36 inches from the top of the floor. However, many counters are 40 to 42 inches off the floor, which happens to be the same as commercial bar heights. For that you would need bar stools that are about 30 to 32 inches high.

For instance, if you have a breakfast bar or pass through counter in your home you would most likely will need counter stools. However, if you have a wet bar in your home, then bar stools would probably be in order.
In either case there are a multitude of styles available to fit your needs and the reason being is they can be crafted from all sorts of materials and finished in different ways. You can purchase ones made from different woods like oak, pine, and maple, others that are crafted from metal including wrought iron and stainless steel, and there are even options that feature leather seats. Those that have leather seats are extremely comfortable and other lavish options are those that are upholstered with other soft fabrics as well.
If counter stools are what you need, decide where they will be, on the kitchen side of a breakfast bar or on the living room/dining room side. Naturally if you will have them in the kitchen you would want to make sure they matched your current décor. For this type it a good bet that you are going to want something light and perhaps whimsical. If they are on the other side in a more formal dining area perhaps a swivel chair so that it can be used to eat and face the kitchen or turn around to join in a conversation in that room.
Basically, counter stools are so versatile that you may wonder why you didn't add them to your space before. Bar stools are also versatile too and a great way to check out all the options is by going online and doing your shopping there. Browsing through all the different choices is as easy and sifting through all the different online store fronts and when you do find something that you really like, it typically is at a pretty reasonable price. In the end, counter stools and bar stools are pretty similar, but their one glaring difference is their height. Make sure you get the right one for the job, otherwise, you just might be out of luck if it doesn't fit.
